Customer Advocacy & Storytelling Lead
Remote | Contract - Role | Monday–Friday
About MEDLIFE:
MEDLIFE is a nonprofit organization working alongside low-income communities in Latin America and Africa to improve access to medicine, education, and community development.
About the Role:
- As our Customer Advocacy & Storytelling Lead, you will own MEDLIFE's leadership recognition and storytelling programs from end to end.
- Your mission will be simple: find the people who embody the impact of MEDLIFE, build genuine relationships with them, uncover their stories, and make those stories discoverable and useful across the organization.
- You'll combine strong interviewing and storytelling skills with excellent organization and CRM discipline.
- You may spend one part of your day having a meaningful conversation with a student or alum about a life-changing experience — and the next updating CRM records, managing follow-ups, organizing story assets, or partnering with Marketing and Sales to turn that story into content.
What You'll Do:
Own Leadership Recognition Programs:
- Manage MEDLIFE's recognition programs, including Foundations of Service, Built to Serve, and PIN Awards.
- Develop nomination and outreach strategies.
- Manage nominees and award recipients throughout the process.
- Coordinate selection, communication, follow-up, and recognition activities.
- Help recognized students, alumni, travelers, and community leaders articulate their growth and identify meaningful next steps within the MEDLIFE Movement.
Build MEDLIFE's Storytelling Engine:
- Identify students, alumni, and community partners with compelling experiences and perspectives.
- Conduct thoughtful, engaging interviews that uncover authentic and specific stories.
- Help people who are not professional speakers feel comfortable sharing their experiences.
- Identify the right storyteller for different audiences, questions, and communication goals.
- Turn raw conversations into compelling, authentic stories that demonstrate MEDLIFE's impact.
Build and Manage a Story & Proof Library:
- Create and maintain a searchable library of testimonials, quotes, videos, written stories, and case studies.
- Ensure stories are properly tagged, categorized, and easy for internal teams to discover.
- Track permissions, consent, and content usage accurately.
- Maintain strong data and follow-up discipline as the library grows.
Turn One Story Into Multiple Assets:
- Partner with Marketing, Social Media, Sales, SEO, Web, and Chapter Recruitment.
- Identify opportunities to repurpose stories across multiple channels.
- Help transform one strong story into social content, website stories, sales materials, email content, video clips, quotes, and case studies.
- Ensure each story reaches the right audience in the right format and at the right time.
Use CRM & Data to Scale Relationships:
- Manage hundreds or thousands of relationships through CRM workflows.
- Use HubSpot or Salesforce to segment contacts, track engagement, manage follow-ups, and maintain accurate records.
- Monitor storytelling and recognition pipelines and identify opportunities for follow-up.
- Build repeatable systems that allow MEDLIFE to scale its advocacy and recognition efforts.
Listen to the Community:
- Monitor social channels and online communities to identify questions, objections, narrative gaps, and opportunities.
- Help MEDLIFE understand what audiences are asking, discussing, and looking for.
- Develop channel-specific approaches to ensure relevant stories are reaching the right audiences.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience owning a customer advocacy, customer reference, testimonial, case study, storytelling, alumni, ambassador, or recognition program.
- Advanced or professional working proficiency in English, with strong spoken and written communication skills.
- Experience managing a large population of customers, advocates, alumni, members, nominees, or community participants.
- Strong interviewing skills and the ability to uncover specific, authentic stories from people who are not professional spokespeople.
- Experience using CRM platforms such as HubSpot or Salesforce to manage relationships, segmentation, workflows, follow-ups, and reporting.
- Experience building or maintaining a structured library of stories, testimonials, references, or other content assets.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience repurposing stories or interviews into different content formats and channels.
- Ability to build trust quickly with U.S.-based audiences and work effectively across cultures.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent follow-through, particularly when managing consent, permissions, tagging, and CRM records.
- Experience with Google Workspace.
- Comfort using basic content and video tools such as Canva or CapCut.
- Interest in using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Otter.ai to support transcription, tagging, research, and workflow efficiency.
Nice to Have:
- Experience managing recognition, awards, ambassador, alumni, or community programs.
- Experience with nonprofit, education, international, or mission-driven organizations.
- Familiarity with social listening and online communities.
- Experience with Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit, or review platforms.
- Basic video editing or story-to-asset production experience.
- Experience developing customer advocacy or referral programs.
What We Offer:
- 100% remote work.
- Full-time position, Monday–Friday.
- Competitive salary based on experience.
- Competitive benefits package.
- Birthday day off.
- Meaningful ownership over MEDLIFE's recognition and storytelling programs.
